Acoustic Africa – Dobet Gnahore, Manou Gallo (of Zap Mama), Kareyce Fotso and Leni Stern – 10/23 &10/24
The third installment of the popular Acoustic Africa tour focuses on the richness of the African traditions of the voice and song, featuring the continent’s up and coming vocal impresarios;
Dobet Gnahore, the Ivory Coast vocalist and dancer who has garnered a reputation as one of the most vibrant performers in world music; Ivory Coast bassist and vocalist Manou Gallo who has gained acclaim as the bassist for Zap Mama, whose own music draws on rhythms of West Africa as well as funk and R&B; and Kareyce Fotso, a young Cameroonian singer whose music is an intriguing combination of Afro-pop, Blues, and traditional African music.
Leni Stern, the American contemporary guitarist who gained increasingly wide acclaim since releasing four recordings of African influenced material, joins with musical direction. These exciting singers will be backed by an all-star band including Ivorians balafonist Aly Keita (Omar Sosa, Joe Zawinul).

“Fiesta Latina”  FULCRUM POINT NEW MUSIC PROJECT
In celebration of 14 years and the 5th anniversary of our Sound Tracks educational program, Fulcrum Point New Music Project announces its annual benefit concert with special guests Sones de México Ensemble, young musicians and dancers from ChiArts High School, and our own Sound Tracks Plus students from Waters Elementary School!
The program will celebrate Latin music from Mexico, Spain and the Andes with the Mid-west Premiere of Rapsodia Andina by Gabriela Lena Frank, flamenco dancer Chiara Mangiameli in Carlos Surinach’s Ritmo Jondo, a modernist take on celebratory Aztec ritual music in Carlos Chávez’s Xochipili, Chicagoan Gustavo Leone’s modernist variation on Mexican rhythms and sonorities in Mobiles, and a festive finale!
Net proceeds will benefit Fulcrum Point’s Sound Tracks educational outreach program which serves 800 Chicago Public School students.
