Grupo Ritual (Cumbia Andina)
Grupo Ritual, under the direction of Alfredo Rebolledo, perform a style of music called Cumbia Andina made popular by Mexican super group Los Askis. This group, whose members hail from Mexico, Ecuador, and Bolivia, mix Mexican and South American cumbia with Andean music for a unique, danceable sound.

Brazilian Carnaval 2013 feat. Swing Brasileiro
One of the most vibrant celebrations of Carnaval in the world happens every year in Rio de Jenairo Brazil. Sound Culture and Swing Brasileiro are proud to bring the tradition and vibe of Brazilian Carnaval to Chicago!
The night will feature local Brazilian super group SWING BRASILEIRO which combines some of the area’s most accomplished Brazilian musicians playing popular carnaval musical styles such as Samba, Marchinhas, Samba Reggae, Frevo and Batucadas. The evening also includes Carnaval costume dance performances by the beautiful DILL COSTA DANCE GROUP.
Joining again is BLOCO MAXIMO, a 12-piece force of percussive groovers, bringing carnaval batucada from Bahia and Rio. Bloco Maximo is a new Chicago-based percussion group that brings the awesome sound of Brazilian batucada from the Pelourinho and the Sambodromo – combining the traditional sounds of timbal, repique, surdo, caixa & tamborim in a funky, energetic dose of wall-to-wall rhythm!
Mayne Stage will screen Rio de Jenairo’s Carnaval Parade on a 22ft screen before the show starts and will serve Caipirinha drink specials.

Kalapriya Studio Sessions Concert Series
The artists are Saraswathi Ranganathan on the veena, Ganapathi Ranganathan playing mridangam, Dr. Ravi Iyer on the ghatam, and Tara Swaminathan performing vocals. All are classically trained in their art and have performed internationally, receiving numerous accolades and recognition for their skill. Saraswathi Ranganathan founded the group Ensemble of Ragas, with a school and studio in Schaumburg, IL.

When the pirates demand an exorbitant $7 million dollar ransom, the hostages remain helpless as haggling between the ship’s stoic owner and the pirates’ negotiator drags on for 70 days. These two adversaries will have to become unlikely allies as they race to keep the crew from being killed by their violent captors.

Flamenco Flamenca
Famed flamenco dancer and choreographer Edwin Aparicio explores themes of gender in flamenco with this stunning new work. While flamenco is steeped in tradition, it continues to evolve, and Aparicio’s choreography pushes it forward with evocative imagery and spectacular footwork.
Edwin Aparicio is considered to be one of the most sought-after flamenco performers, teachers, and choreographers in the United States. He has been described by critics as “the most amazing dancer seen in years,” and as “a technical powerhouse dancing with blistering conviction.”
