May 31 – June 02

FRIDAY MAY 31
‘Here & Now’ at Braiding Rivers Festival (May 31-June 2)
Ananya Dance Theater (MN), Krithika Rajagopalan (NY), and Danceworks Milwaukee (WI) / Emma Draves (IL)
Braiding Rivers Festival is a three-weekend concert series, curated by artist/scholar Emma Draves. The Festival creates a local-national connection amongst artists showcasing work which spectres Indian dance through a contemporary lens. These works challenge assumptions of what is Indian dance, highlights its influences within the American contemporary dance scene, and expands conversation on how we shape our identities. Just as malleable water sources can ‘braid’ together to form unique river systems, so has Indian art braided its dance-theater forms with ever-evolving ideas reflecting our contemporary world.
