10/22 | Kamayani (dance) by Mandala South Asian Arts FREE

This production of Kamayani by Mandala South Asian Arts combines the beauty and complexity of multiple classical Indian dance styles with a modern interpretation.

Kamayani is an epic tale inspired by The Puranas, ancient Indian texts that detail the journey of Manu, progenitor of man. Manu, the first man and sole survivor of the great flood, is left without emotion, thought or action. In his journey of recovery, he is constantly torn between intellect and passion, personified as two women who battle for Manu’s attention and affection. He must choose one to love and rule his heart. In his journey of rediscovery, he goes through several experiences that include Asha (Hope), Irshyaa (Jealousy), Darshan (Vision), Karma (Action), Vasna (passion), Swapna (dream), Sangharsh (conflict) and many more to find his balance. The production of Kamayani expresses the beauty and complexity of multiple Indian dance genres that include Bharata Natyam, Kathak, Kalaripattu, and Oddissi.
