05/27 | Musical Crossroads: India and the West FREE

Renowned sitarist Gaurav Mazumdar, a student of the legendary Ravi Shankar, joins Crossing Borders Music to present his original compositions for sitar, tabla, and European strings. The compositions depict through music a human life journeying from birth to the worldly affairs of adulthood to the renunciation of old age. The music merges traditional North Indian classical modes and rhythms with a Western style of counterpoint and innovative, modal harmonies.
12pm Preston Bradley Hall at Chicago Cultural Center, East Washington Street, Chicago. Free and open to the public.
