Tatsu Aoki’s ensemble the Miyumi Project is one of the longest standing amalgams of Chicago’s avant-garde jazz and Japanese traditional music. A collaboration between African American and Asian-American jazz artists, the Miyumi Project explores a nexus of past and present cultures. The Miyumi Project features Tatsu Aoiki, Mwata Bowden, Edward Wilkerson, Jaime Kempkers, Kioto, and Coco Elysses. This program is FREE, and admission on Tuesdays is free for residents of Illinois.
Our annual performance series takes place on the MCA’s Anne and John Kern Terrace Garden every Tuesday from June through September. Hosted by Al Carter-Bey with Richton Guy Thomas, from WHPK 88.5 FM, University of Chicago, and sponsored by WDCB 90.9, all of the performances in this summer series are FREE. Museum admission is also free every Tuesday for residents of Illinois.
