01/25 Palace Gamelan Concert


Gamelan is the traditional ensemble music of Java and Bali in Indonesia, made up predominantly of percussive instruments. The most common instruments used are metallophones played by mallets and a set of hand-played drums called kendhang which register the beat. Other instruments include xylophones, bamboo flutes, a bowed instrument called a rebab, and even vocalists called sindhen.

Don’t miss a one night only special collaboration between The Chicago Gadhon & Rickshaw Republic in an intimate setting. Guests will be exposed to “Palace style” gamelan, which is considered to be one of the most refined styles of Javanese gamelan. They will features seven musicians both instrumentalists and vocalists, and a chance to interact with them throughout the evening.

Rickshaw Republic will be providing a special all you can eat feast featuring at least 15 unique dishes from appetizers to dessert. Bring your own wine or beer to enjoy the experience!
